Walter Mazzarri, close to being fired at Napoli – Francesco Calzona, the next coach

Difficult situation in Naples before the Champions League match with FC Barcelona.

De Laurentiis’ side are struggling in Serie A, and a draw with Genoa at the weekend has exacerbated the reigning champions’ crisis, writes Mundo Deportivo.

The departure of Luciano Spalletti last summer left the team without a real leader on the technical bench, and Napoli will have their third manager this season.

In ninth place with 36 points, 27 behind leaders Inter, Napoli are nine points adrift of last-placed Atalanta in the Champions League.

Neither Rudy Garcia (July-November) nor Walter Mazzarri (November-now) could bring the team close to last year’s results, and De Laurentiis could cause a shock even on the eve of the Barcelona game.

According to the Italian media, Francesco Calzona will lead Napoli, in parallel with the post of head coach of Slovakia, occupying both positions until the summer.

At the age of 55, Calzona worked twice in the staff of “Napoli”, the last time in the 2021-2022 season, from where he left for the Slovak national team.
