Real Madrid received the largest amount in the history of women’s football, after the American club Bay FC paid 735 thousand euros for the Zambian striker Rachel Kundanaji.
Rachel Kundadanji, transferred for €735,000
Bay FC, the new American League franchise based in San Jose, did not provide details of the transfer fee, but according to US channel ESPN and Spanish daily Marca, it will be $787,000 (€735,000).
This sum exceeds the $488,000 (€450,000) that London club Chelsea paid in January to Spanish club Levante for Colombian player Mayra Ramirez.
However, the sums in women’s football are a far cry from those in men’s football, most notably the record €222m PSG paid to sign Barcelona’s Brazilian star Neymar in August 2017.
Kundanaji, 23, will join the California franchise until 2027 with an option for one more season. Arriving at Madrid in August 2022, she scored 25 goals in her first season and another eight in the 14 matches she played this season.
She participated with Zambia in the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023 and in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, writes News.ro.
