Ranked 94th in the world, Wang made it through the first two rounds Sorana Cîrstea (favorite 22) and
Emma Reducanu (US Open 2021 champion).
Yafan lost to Melbourne 12th seed Qinwen Zheng 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(8) on Saturday.
The match at Rod Laver Arena lasted two hours and 40 minutes.
Qinwen Zheng will face Ocean Dodin (95 WTA) for a place in the quarters after she won her French duel with Clara Bourel 6-2, 6-4.
