In the first match of the day, the Japanese Taro Daniel (74 ATP) made a big surprise, defeating the American Ben Shelton (16 ATP, the main favorite) with a score of 7-5, 7-6(9).
France’s Arthur Fils (35 ATP, favorite 6) suffered an even bigger defeat against Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo (82 ATP), 6-2, 7-5. The match lasted one hour and 48 minutes.
This will be the second final for both Taro Daniel (after the title in Istanbul-2018) and Alejandro Tabilo (after the defeat in Córdoba-2022).
