Gabriela Ruse’s career at WTA Auckland ended in the first round, the “250” competition phase, in which our player was defeated by Emma Redukan (6-3, 4-6, 7-5).
Gabriela, who came out of the qualifiers and is ranked 134th in the world, surrendered her serve at 4-3 in the first set, and the only break in the set was enough for Redukan to triumph (6-3).
The second set brought with it a real recital of breaks (there were 5 of them): a lot of service errors were made, and the set went to Gabriela with a score of 6-4.
The decisive one was the one in which more and bigger mistakes, unfortunately, were on Ruse’s side: Gabi gave her serve twice, and it was Emma who broke at 5-2.
However, our player did not give up the fight: she saved two match points and managed to tie the score at 5.
Unfortunately, the unforced errors returned and Gabriela eventually succumbed, 7-5.
Emma (301 WTA, wild card) defended quite well in key moments, was patient and forced only when situations for attack were clear.
On the other hand, Ruse responded at many points with spectacular strikes, but she lacked consistency. We are talking about a combination of winning shots with unforced errors that occur at important moments.
The game lasted two hours and 30 minutes.
Emma Raducanu returns with a WIN!!!
