“UEFA takes note of the decision made today (Thursday) by the CJEU in the case of the European Super League. This decision does not imply approval or confirmation of the so-called Super Leagues, but highlights an existing deficiency in UEFA’s prior authorization rule, a technical aspect that was already recognized and addressed in June 2022,” the European Football Forum said in a statement.

UEFA added that it is “confident in the reliability of its new rules and in particular that they comply with all relevant European laws and regulations” and that it “remains resolute in its commitment to protect the pyramid of European football by ensuring that it continues to serve the wider interests of society.”

“We will continue to shape the European sports model together with national federations, leagues, clubs, fans, players, coaches, EU institutions, governments and partners,” the UEFA text also states.

Finally, the Nyon-based organization expressed its confidence that “European football’s pyramid of solidarity, which fans and all stakeholders have declared to be its indispensable model, will be protected from the threat of fragmentation by European and national laws”, according to Agerpres.

The European Court of Justice ruled on Thursday that UEFA and FIFA acted illegally when they blocked the creation of the European Football Super League, the BBC reports.
