​Andriy Ungur managed to qualify on Thursday in the semi-finals of the 100m backstroke as part of the European Short Course Swimming (25m) from Otopeni. The 25-year-old athlete will compete for entry to the grand final in the evening.

With a result of 50 seconds, 61/100, Andrii showed the third overall time and advanced to the semi-finals.

Denis-Laurean Popescu also qualified for the semi-finals with the 11th time of the series: 51 seconds 42/100.

“This is my best time, it’s very good for the morning. I am waiting for the semi-finals and will try better. I have supporters, family, supporters from Baia Mare, from far away. I want to make them happy.

We are at home, and I have been preparing for five years. I like the 100m backstroke, especially the shorter distance. I dream of going to the Olympic Games.

  • The semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday evening, from 18:36, respectively 18:39.
  • Vlad-Stefan Michalake also qualified in the 200m butterfly with the sixth time of the series, 1min 55s 63/100. The semi-finals will take place on Thursday evening at 19:34 and 19:39.
