The name of Radu Dragusin was mentioned by Niccolo Fagioli in the scandal of the moment in Italy: the Juventus footballer said that he borrowed money from the Romanian defender to make a bet.

Fagioli cooperated with the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, and the punishment in his case was lenient: 7 months of disqualification and another five in rehabilitation.

Fagioli would spend more than a million euros on various platforms and bet on several football matches. In addition, the midfielder accumulated large debts.

In one of the messages found by the authorities in Nicolo Fagioli’s phone, the name of Radu Dragusin, his former colleague from Juventus (Primavera, but also a big team), appears.

Nicolo Fagioli, gambling addiction and debt: “We will break your legs”

Tuttosport published the statements made by Fagioli to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday. The “Juventus” player talked about how he got into gambling and the debts he accumulated.

“I stopped sleeping at night. The more time passed, the more debt I got. The amounts I owed were growing and I thought if I just kept playing I would pay them back.

“We will break your legs,” they told me. The debt became so great that even if I won the bet, I would get nothing, it would just be deducted from the amount of money I owed.

A close friend (Tonali) suggested me to play on an illegal site during a match of the national team under 21 years. I saw him playing and asked him what he was doing. He told me that this way we wouldn’t leave any sign that we wouldn’t be caught. And he encouraged me to register on the website for this reason.

I placed the first bets on tennis, and then on football. I used to bet on illegal sites, I remember one called Betart and another called Icebet. There were others, but I don’t remember their names because they changed names every month.

First you play because you have a lot of free time, you train in the morning and then you have the day off. You play to beat boredom, to feel adrenaline. I started in the summer of 2021 when I was at the youth team training camp in Tirrenia.

Others did it, I didn’t question whether these sites were legal or not, for me the difference between a legal site and an illegal one was that you can play for credit on an illegal one.

It was fun for a while. Then, from January 2022, when I arrived in Turin, I was in a state of stress because of the accumulated debts, and from September last year I also started to do football. I invested huge sums in trying to recover” – Niccolo Fagioliquoted by Tuttosport.

Niccolò Fagioli pleaded guilty and was charged with breaching Article 24 of the sports code related to the match: from 36 months in prison it was reduced to 12, of which 7 off the field and a further 5 for rehabilitation.

The verdict also includes a fine of 12,500 euros, as well as an obligation for the player to follow a treatment plan for at least six months.

During the five months of rehabilitation, the “Juventus” player will also take part in ten meetings of the Italian Football Federation.
