The race began with an accident and led to the removal of Lewis Hamilton on the first lap.
A few seconds after the start, the Mercedes driver collided with his partner George Russell and was forced to retire.
Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari) and Logan Sargeant (Williams) also failed to finish the race, while Verstappen’s RedBull team-mate Sergio Perez finished only ninth.
