
​Mark Williams won his third British Open snooker championship after defeating Mark Selby 10-7 in the final in Cheltenham.

The game was very spectacular. Williams led 5-1, but Selby managed to close within one frame (5-4 and 6-5).
With the score 8-5, Williams announced a bathroom break after a safe shot by her opponent, and then Selby again managed to close the gap (8-7).
Selby came close to leveling the scores at 56-0, but Williams broke the deficit to take the first ball after a 39-minute wait to win the frame with a 69-point break.
Williams needed a snooker in the next frame but got it and won on the black ball.

- Mark Williams also won the British Open in 1997 (after a final with Stephen Hendry) and in 2021 (against Gary Wilson).
- Williams (48 years, 194 days) became the second-oldest winner of a ranking tournament after Ray Reardon (won on the Professional Players Tour in 1982).
- This was the 25th ranking tournament won by Mark Williams. Only Ronnie O’Sullivan (39), Stephen Hendry (36), John Higgins (31) and Steve Davies (28) have won more.
