Mercedes announced on Thursday that Britons Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will continue to compete in Formula 1 for the German manufacturer after extending their contracts.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell extended their contracts with Mercedes until 2025
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Hamilton has extended his contract with Mercedes for two years, until the end of the 2025 season, writes AFP.
The long-delayed announcement comes after months of speculation surrounding the future of the F1 driver. And George Russell signed a new deal.
“Our story is not over, we are determined to achieve more together and we will not stop until we do. We never wanted to win so badly. We learned from every success, but also from every failure” – Lewis Hamilton.
After the disappointment of losing the title at the last Grand Prix of 2021 to Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Lewis Hamilton last year had his first white season since starting his career in 2007. In 2022, he won no pole positions and no wins.
Hamilton is winless this season and is currently 4th overall.
Arriving in Formula 1 in 2007 at McLaren, Lewis Hamilton (38 years old) won his first world championship with the British team in 2008 when he was 23 years old. He arrived at Mercedes in 2013 and won another six world championship titles from 2014 to 2020, writes Agerpres.
