Stefanos Tsitsipas was unexpectedly eliminated from the US Open 2023 after losing in the second round to Swiss Dominic Stricker (128 ATP). After the match, the athlete from Greece announced in the stands that he would no longer be coached by Mark Philippoussis.

Stephanos Tsitsipas fired coach Mark Philippoussis again

The partnership between Tsitsipas and Philippoussis (46) began in the middle of last year, but the Greek knocked out the Australian for the first time ahead of Roland Garros 2023.

Mark returned to Stephanos’ box at the beginning of August, but the Greek could not string together victories and again decided that he no longer wanted the Australian in his team.

“My cooperation with Mark has ended. This does not mean that I blame him for my defeats, the staff is not responsible for what I do on the field. There, everything is under my control, and only I am to blame for the results” – Stefanos Tsitsipas for Eurosport Greece.

After this decision, Apostolos Tsitsipas will probably return to his son’s lodge.

Tsitsipas won this month’s tournament in Los Cabos, but then lost to Gael Monfils in Toronto (second round), lost to Hubert Gurkacs in Cincinnati (third round) and crashed out of the US Open (second round).
