At the beginning of August, Marcelo (35 years old) was withdrawn immediately after breaking the leg of an opponent in the match “Argentinos Juniors” – “Fluminense” Copa Libertadores 1:1.
In an attempt to dribble, Marcelo stepped directly on the knee of Luciano Sanchez, who was rushed to the hospital. Realizing what happened, the Brazilian defender burst into tears, and at the end of the match posted an emotional message on social networks.
“Today I experienced a very difficult moment on the field. I accidentally injured a colleague. I wish you the best recovery, Luciano Sanchez. All the strength in the world!” – wrote Marcelo on Twitter.
A week and a half later, Marcelo was disqualified for 3 matches and fined 6,000 euros. However, Fluminense disagreed and appealed the sanctions. The Brazilian club believed that the defender’s entry was unintentional.
