Manchester United announced on Monday that they are parting ways with Mason Greenwood after the youngster was the subject of an internal investigation into allegations of assault and attempted rape.
Mason Greenwood didn’t get another chance from Manchester United
In January 2022, Manchester United was rocked by a huge scandal, at the forefront of which was Mason Greenwood.
Harriet Robson, a friend of Mason Greenwood, published several photos on the social network, accusing the Manchester United footballer of beating and attempted rape.
He was detained, but later released and placed under judicial control.
In the end, Greenwood’s girlfriend dropped the charges and even bore him a child, but the club to which the Englishman belongs launched an internal investigation, after which he was ordered to part with him.
Immediately, the 21-year-old player had the first reaction.
“I want to start by saying that I understand that people will judge me because of what they’ve seen and heard on social media, and I know that people will think the worst.
I was raised to understand that violence or abuse in any relationship is wrong, I did not do what I was accused of and was acquitted of all charges in February.
However, I fully acknowledge that I made mistakes in my relationship and take my share of responsibility for the situations that led to the social media post.
I am learning to understand my responsibilities to set a good example as a professional footballer and focus on the great responsibility of being a father as well as a good partner.
Today’s decision was part of a joint process between Manchester United, my family and myself. The best decision for all of us is for me to continue my football career away from Old Trafford. Thank you to the club for your support since I joined at the age of seven. There will always be a part of me that will be the only one.
I am extremely grateful to my family and all my loved ones for their support, and now it is my turn to repay the trust of those around me. I intend to become a better footballer, but above all a good father, a better person and to use my talent in a positive way on and off the pitch.” – Mason Greenwood wrote.
