After moving to Chelsea for 60 million euros, Nkunku will not be on the field this year

The 25-year-old, who already missed the World Cup in Qatar through injury, will miss Chelsea’s start to the season and most likely France’s next matches, France v Ireland in the Euro 2024 qualifiers (September 7) and Germany v France (12 September).

Nkunku “has undergone surgery and will now begin a rehabilitation program with the club’s medical team,” the London club said in a statement, without specifying the nature of his injury or the length of his absence. According to British media, Nkunku could be unavailable for four months.

After moving to Chelsea in June from Leipzig for more than 60 million euros, he was injured last week in Chicago in a friendly with Dortmund (1-1). In his first preseason matches, he scored three goals, writes News.ro.

Chelsea will open the Premier League season on Sunday against Liverpool.
