The first semifinal of the women’s draw at Roland Garros brought an extremely heated match with twists and turns, at the end of which Karolina Mukhova (43 WTA) defeated the favorite Aryna Sabalenko (2 WTA) with a score of 7-6(5), 6 (5)-7, 7-5.

Arina Sabalenko was eliminated from Karolina Mukhova at Roland Garros

Despite the fact that Sabalenko started as a heavy favorite, in the first set Mukhova led, and each time she came back, managing to send her to a tie-break, where the Czech won with a score of 7-5.

The second set followed a similar scenario and was played evenly, again reaching a tie-break, but this time the second favorite of the tournament leveled the situation after another 7-5.

In the deciding set, Sabalenka started very well and, winning three games in a row, won a match point, which she missed.

Karolina Muhova was back again and the finish was fiery and gave the Czech Republic a surprise qualification after winning the last four games.

The game lasted three hours and 17 minutes.

Having reached the final of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, Karolina Mukhova awaits a match in the other semi-final, in which world leader Iga Sviatek and Beatrice Haddad Maia (14 WTA) will meet to find out the opponent in the last action.

The Roland Garros tournament takes place from May 28 to June 11, has a total prize pool of 49.6 million euros, and is the 127th tournament. Iga Sviatek and Rafael Nadal (14-time winner in Paris) became the champions of the title.
