Rafael Nadal underwent surgery on left lumbar nerve injury a day before his 37th birthday
The former leader of the ATP hierarchy, Rafael Nadal, gave a press conference before Roland Garros, where he confirmed that he will not participate in the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, and also talked about his temporary and even permanent retirement from the circuit.
With 22 Grand Slam titles won, Rafael Nadal was injured in his 2023 Australian Open match against Mackenzie Macdonald.
His agent confirmed on Friday night that he underwent minor surgery to treat a lower back muscle, writes the Daily Mail.
“Rafael Nadal underwent minor arthroscopic surgery to repair a left lumbar nerve injury that kept him out of competition. This operation was performed in Barcelona.” – reported Benito Perez-Barbadillo.
Nadal’s team has announced that he is undergoing arthroscopic surgery to address a left psoas muscle that has kept him out of action since January. The surgery is being performed in Barcelona by Dr. Ruiz-Cotorro, Nadal’s long-time doctor, as well as Dr. Filippon and Dr. Vilaro.
