With four rounds to go, Leeds are 17th on 30 points, level with relegated Nottingham Forest but with a better goal difference.

Javi Garcia, along with his staff of Zigor Aranalde, Mikel Antio and Ian Solla, spent just 12 games on the Leeds bench.

“Thank you Xavi and his team for their efforts in difficult conditions. The remaining four games of the season will be led by experienced head coach Sam Allardyce,” the club said.

With over 500 Premier League appearances from the bench and 29 years of managerial experience, Allardyce also managed Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn and West Ham, with the latter winning promotion to the top flight.

Over the past decade, the technician has managed to avoid relegation from Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Everton after short spells.

Sam Allardyce will make his debut on the bench for his new team against Manchester City on Saturday.
