The Spaniard needed two sets and just one hour and 23 minutes to reach the quarter-finals 6-1, 6-2.

In the first set, the former 2018 Champions Tour winner managed to win just one game and drop two serves against last year’s champion.

The second set was also at the disposal of Alcaraz, who took advantage of the German’s mistakes, and in the end allowed himself to miss two match points.

In the quarterfinals, Carlos Alcaraz will meet Russian Karen Khachanov (12 ATP), who on Tuesday overcame his compatriot Andriy Rublev after 7-6, 6-4.

The ATP Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay in the Caja Magica complex. It is in the ATP 1000 category, has a total prize money of 7,705,780 euros, and the titular champion is Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
