Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the 3rd round of the Madrid Open.

The Greek tennis player, although he saw the victory of the Austrian in the first set, responded in the next two sets and, thanks to his serve, won 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.

Tsitsipas turned the match around and won the 28-year-old tennis player in 2 hours and 19 minutes. His opponent on Monday (1/5) will be the Argentinean Sebastian Baez. The Greek tennis player finished the match with 22 wins and 27 unforced errors.

In the 1st set, Thiem took a 1-4 lead and has since held his serve to 1-0. With an impeccable serve of Tsitsipas and with two breaks (2:0, 5:1), 1:1 was not long in coming. Tsitsipas ended up with a break point at 1-1 due to a double mistake by Tim in the 3rd set. The two players went hand in hand until 5-5. However, at this point, Tim’s mistake gave Tzitsipach a break point, but Tim managed to equalize.

Tsitsipas persevered and subsequently took two more break points, but there were no retaliatory strikes, and in the end Tim came out unscathed, taking a 5-6 lead. After that, Tsitsipas kept his serve, and everything became clear in the tie-break, where the Greek played 1-3, led 5-3 and scored two match points at 6-4. Thiem won back the mini-break by attacking, but Stefanos earned his second match point due to an Austrian mistake at the gate and closed the match.
