Andrii Martin, suspended for 14 months after testing positive for ostarine
Andrei Martin (33 years old, 554th place in ATP) tested positive for ostarine in June 2022 during a tournament in Bratislava. Martin was initially banned for four years, but the sanction was reduced to 14 months after it was determined that the doping was unintentional.
Martin explained that during a match of floorball – a sport related to hockey – he mistook his water bottle for a colleague’s, drank from it and thus inadvertently ingested the substance. A teammate later admitted that he had added ostarine to his own water bottle that he brought to the gym.
Ostarine is a drug aimed at increasing muscle mass and bone density in the elderly, but it is not an anabolic steroid. According to News.ro, the product has been banned since 2008.
