Two World Snooker Championship matches were interrupted after two Just Stop Oil activists broke into the Crucible Theater (Sheffield).
The protester threw paint on the pool table
Early in the evening session, a match between Robert Milkins and Joe Perry was interrupted by a man who climbed onto the table and threw orange powder paint at him.
The match was immediately suspended and the substance was removed using vacuum cleaners.
The woman tripped while trying to do the same at the next table where Mark Allen and Fan Zhenyi were playing.
“I’ve never seen anything like it in a snooker competition. This is the first time. This is terrible. Oho! It caught us all by surprise, and then this happened. For me, as a snooker player, I immediately think, “Can the table be rebuilt?”. We don’t know what’s on it” – Stephen Hendryseven-time world champion, in the commentary of the BBC.

Just Stop Oil, a British environmental activist group that advocates ending fossil fuel production, claimed responsibility for the protest.
“At around 7.20pm, two Just Stop Oil supporters disrupted the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield, interrupting play. The two covered the tables in orange powder paint before being escorted out by security and arrested.
They demand the government immediately stop all new UK fossil fuel projects and call on British sporting institutions to stand up to the government’s genocidal policies,” Just Stop Oil wrote on Twitter.
