POIATH: more than a sports club

Today I will not complain about the mistakes and failures of the Greek sport. I will also not cover his problems. I will deal with a sports club that was awarded by the Athens Academy in 2013 for its multifaceted activities and multifaceted, valuable contribution – national, social, charitable, cultural, sports: Panhellenic High Seas Sailing Associationorganizer of the famous aegean rallywhich turns 60 this year.

It was in 1963 that members of the “young” group (founded in 1961) “thrown away” the idea of the match, mainly seeking to raise awareness of the sport in the Aegean and promote it throughout Greece. An idea that was realized in 1964. Since then, POIATH has not ceased to offer its homeland in every possible way. Especially since the beginning of the 80s, the role of the Rally in protecting the shipping sovereignty of our country in the Aegean Sea, which was disputed by the Turks, has become important. Moreover, at the direction of the competent state authorities, the Rally includes our uninhabited islands among its stations.

But POITH’s offer in the Aegean does not end there. He establishes sailing centers on small islands, to which he supplies sailing equipment and other equipment. Its goal is to develop maritime art and preserve our maritime traditions.

The activities of the group are also charitable. For ten years, he organized the Cup of Hope and donated proceeds from sponsorship of the race to the creation of the Children’s Cancer Department. It now enhances “Children’s Smile”.

In addition, the group plays many other important matches. So it’s more than just a sports club or not?
