Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic suffered an upset in the third round of the WTA 1000 in Miami, losing in straight sets to Kateryna Oleksandrivna, 7-6, 6-3.

The former Tokyo Olympic champion missed two set points and two more in the tiebreak, and Oleksandrivna (18 WTA) took full advantage to win, 10-8.

In the second set, the Russian controlled the match and easily won against the 9th ranked player in the world.

The game lasted one hour and 55 minutes.

In the 1/8 finals, Oleksandrivna will meet Canadian Bianka Andreescu (31 WTA), who won against Sofia Kenin with a score of 6-4, 6-4.

The Miami Open takes place from March 21 to April 2 on hard, is part of the “WTA 1000” category and has a total prize pool of $8,800,000. There are 96 players in the main draw, and the reigning champion is Iga Svyatek.
