Milan will move from San Siro, reports Gazzetta dello Sport

The match with Tottenham in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League (match of the round, the score of the Italians 1:0) opened new horizons for the Milanese.

The champions of Italy collected somewhere over 9 million euros (a record for Italian football in one match), and now the representatives of Milan have decided to move to a new arena on their own.

Milan and Inter have been joint tenants of the San Siro since 1947, when they shared the legendary Italian arena.

In recent years, there have been discussions about the San Siro arena: it was about demolition (prohibited by the municipality of Milan), about reconstruction, as well as about the joint construction of a new stadium.

Eventually, Milan intends to build its own stadium, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The source reports that sometime in 2027, the new arena may be put into operation. There are three options for the location of the stadium: two near Milan, and the third very close to the current San Siro.

The legendary San Siro was inaugurated on September 19, 1926, the arena was reconstructed several times: 1935, 1955, 1987 – 1990 (before the World Cup in Italy – 1990) and 2015 – 2016.

The arena will be used for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
