In the next 16 months, our country will host two UEFA finals.

Except for his final Conference League in May 2024, which was “locked” in the Opap Arena, and European Super Cup 2023 will take place on Greek soil, at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium!

And if everything seemed clear to the AEK headquarters, the decision on Karaiskakis, which UEFA will announce today, was a pleasant surprise.

The match for the Super Cup is scheduled for August 16, 2023 and was given at the Ak Bars Arena in Kazan, but, of course, could no longer take place in forbidden Russia.

There were no bids for this particular final and UEFA had to immediately deal with the situation and change the venue.

* Some stadium in an available country of Super Bowl standard (capacity 35,000) that has been sufficiently tested at the level of top European competition.

For the third criterion Karaiskakis was chosen because due to the very good relationship of UEFA with the Greek government at a high level (recent meeting between UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin and Kyriakos Mitsotakis on European football matters) the confidence to follow fast procedures in all bureaucratic matters required from the country for such an event.

– Very good cooperation in these matches with the UEFA people who were in charge of the matches and a very positive opinion about the technical characteristics of the stadium.

At the same time, the downside for the case was the fact that in a few months Greece will host another European final, at the Opap Arena: the conference final on May 29, 2024.

As for the procedures for the first final in the history of the new AEK stadium, they are going well and an official announcement is expected on the eve of the UEFA conference next April, along with other finals (Champions League, Europa League).
