On Monday, the 20-year-old American defeated compatriot Jeffrey John Wolfe (67 ATP) with a score of (5)6-7, 6-2, (4)6-7, 7-6(4), 6-2. The game lasted three hours and 50 minutes.
Shelton, who lost to Portugal’s Nuno Borges in the opening round of the 2022 US Open, also beat Zhizhen Zhang (96 ATP), Nicolas Jarry (154 ATP) and Oleksii Popyrin (113 ATP) in Melbourne.
Ben will face the winner of the match between Roberto Bautista Agut (25 ATP) and Tommy Paul (35 ATP) for a place in the semi-finals.
