Sebastian Korda, son of Petr Korda (1998 Melbourne Grand Slam winner), advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Australian Open on Sunday with a dramatic victory over Hubert Gurkac (10th favourite).

Korda, the No. 29 seed, played a very tense match, but managed to control his emotions better at important moments and won in five sets with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(7) .

The game at Rod Laver Arena lasted three hours and 28 minutes.

Sebastian (31 ATP) will fight against Russian Karen Hachano (20 ATP), who decisively defeated Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (33 ATP), 6-0, 6-0, 7-6(4) for a place in the semi-finals.

Qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Australian Open is the best result in the career of the Grand Slam tournaments for the American athlete.
