EPO: Strangers in the same “house”

Just before the championship and Cup enter their most critical turning point and while all four Big Four teams (Panathinaikos, AEK, Olympiacos, PAOK) have a chance to claim their place, what happened in the EPO in the previous days is coming again put in the “combat” position of adults.

The gap created in the federation between President Takis Baltakos and Executive Secretary Iakovos Philippousis has given another excuse for Super League 1 and Olympiacos President Vangelis Marinakis to launch a furious attack on the EPO demanding the resignation or removal from office of both of its two leading actors.

At the same time, in a long letter he sent, he asked FIFA to intervene by setting up an interim steering committee, which has also happened in the past at the EPO.

“This is the only hope to break out of the context of the third world, in which we are condemned day by day by an obliging and active administration,” emphasized, in particular, V. Marinakis, referring to the “decorative role” of Baltakov in the presidency due to the presence of Philippoussis, for the non-appointment of a referee and unthinkable things in the field of refereeing, for the corrupt championship in Super League 2 and the waste of money that comes from professional football.

In addition to the letter, during the meeting, Marinaki addressed the EPO Executive Committee via videoconference. “What is done with refereeing in Super League 2 was not done even in the time of Thomas Mitropoulos. I have no one to answer to for the letter that I sent as president of the Superleague,” he said, foreshadowing the intervention of the prosecutor’s office.

For their part, AEK and PAOK, through their representatives Alexis Alexiou and Maki Gagatsi, expressed their reaction, given that Marinaka’s letter has no legal force and that this is an arbitrary and criminally hellish move, since there was no corresponding permission from the Ligue 1 Superteams. SL2 President Leonidas Leoutsakos talked about his “targeting”.

The president of Olympiacos demanded FIFA’s intervention for Baltako, Philippoussi. The letter is arbitrary, two “two-headed” people speak.

During the meeting of the Executive Committee, the President of the EPO also wanted to take a position on the publications of recent days, which speak of the restoration of his relationship with Vangelis Marinakis, refuting the scenarios. “It was written that I got along with Marinakis. I repeat, this is not true. But even if that were true, what is it about Marinakis that I can’t get along with him?” T. Baltakos pointed out.

In addition, the EU concerned the invalid, according to the decision of the court of first instance, the dismissal of former EPO financial director Nikos Coliolio. PAOK spokesman Makis Gagatzis said there was a “crazy violation of the bylaws”, adding that the case would be referred to the ethics committee under the responsibility of Iakovos Philippoussis.

Defibrillator in stadiums

The Executive Committee also discussed the tragedy of the death of a 20-year-old amateur football player in Mavromati Karditsa and decided to install defibrillators in all stadiums in Greece.

As agreed, “the EPO will send a letter to the Central Association of Greek Municipalities requesting that all municipalities owning stadiums be informed that the presence of a defibrillator is a prerequisite for their licensing in accordance with the regulations and in the relevant CPA.”
