Kirstya started the game better, quickly seized the initiative, and the first set returned to her with a score of 6-2. Julia was unable to win a single game, breaking a total of six in the first round.

The start of the second set saw a weather interruption (it was raining in Melbourne on Tuesday) and a different dynamic from the locker room.

Putintseva had the strength to make the necessary adjustments after the break, and the set returned to her after the only break in the second set (score 6-4).

The decider was tense, and the balance was broken in the famous seventh game: Sorana surrendered her serve and from that moment she was not counted on the table (6-3 for Putintseva, the player who won the last three games of the dispute).

Romania has already lost three singles athletes: Jacqueline Christian, Ana Bohdan and Sorana Kirstya left the Australian Open in the first round.

Patricia Maria Sig (790 WTA – protected rating) will meet China’s Shuai Zhang (24 WTA, favorite 23), and Iryna Begu (28 WTA and 27 seed) over American Elizabeth Mandlik (130 WTA) in the first round in Melbourne.

Australian Open 2023 will be held from January 16 to 29. The champions of the title were Ashley Barty (now retired from sports) and Rafael Nadal.
