International soccer figures paid tribute to Pele, who died on Thursday at the age of 82, but Lionel Messi’s post sparked outrage among Brazilians.

While Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar wrote emotional messages and talked about the Brazilian’s legacy in football, Lionel Messi was reduced to two pictures and a few words: “Rest in peace Pele”.

Brazilian fans expected more from the Argentine, especially after Pele spoke of Messi’s greatness in a message from his hospital bed after the Albiceleste won the World Cup in Qatar.

“I have never seen such a ‘touching’ message on social media as Leo Messi to Pele” or “You will never match the best, a real king, an arrogant Argentine” are just two bitter messages received by Messi.
