Australia missed out on qualification for the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar after losing 2-1 to Argentina in the round of 16. However, the players coached by Graham Arnold could have taken the match to extra time in the final phase.
Graham Arnold does not know if he will remain on the bench for Australia
Arnold announced at the post-match press conference that his contract with Football Federation Australia had been terminated and a decision would be made at a later date.
“I didn’t think about the future. My contract is up and I just want some time off and then after the break we’ll see what happens. I have worked very hard on this campaign,” said Graham Arnold, according to The Guardian.
Proud of the players, disappointed by the failure
Despite Australia being knocked out, Graham Arnold said he was proud of his team, although he claims he would have liked more for the Australian fans.
“I so wanted to win for the nation, for the fans and for football in Australia. I told the players that I can’t help but be proud of their efforts and dedication,” the coach announced.
