No other … caliphs in football

Before the dust settles that kicked up the Eternals’ derby last Sunday in Leoforo, the Olympiako-AEK derby will take place tomorrow at Georgios Karaiskakis. As much as one would like to be optimistic that it will no longer add fuel to an already existing fire, negative thoughts are inevitable.

You see, in this country, in all areas, the loser cannot accept that the opponent’s victory is due simply to his superiority. He is always looking for excuses to justify his own weaknesses and mistakes. And, unfortunately, there are reasons…

Of course, the prevailing atmosphere also contributes to this. Full of suspicion of behind-the-scenes deals that control the decision-making centers. And the worst. Politics has been infiltrating sports for many years. Especially in team sports and even more so in football.

The expression “political price” is a constant refrain in the minds of those who are called upon to make decisions, especially those who will enforce the law and rid it of all the crooked and inverted Greek football on the field. Those that will stop the economic and political influence that has abolished equality.

Finally, there must be an end somewhere so that a new one can begin. The answer to every protest, even if it is unfair, cannot be “you did the same.” Our football will never recover if the pursuit of the current rulers or the financially powerful of this world is to put in the place of the “caliph”, another, to your liking!
