WADA notified CAS in the doping case of Russian Kamila Valieva

Valieva tested positive for trimetazidine at the Russian championships in December 2021, but the result was not announced until February 8, a day after she helped her country win the gold medal in figure skating at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Last month, RUSADA said it would not publish the results of the investigation into Kamila Valieva’s positive test “to protect the interests” of the 16-year-old athlete.

“Despite the fact that he instructed RUSADA to open the case of Kamila Valieva as soon as possible, there were no developments. Therefore, I can now confirm that WADA/WADA has been officially referred directly to the Court of Arbitration for Sport” – Bank Vitoldon Twitter.

At the end of last month, Banka said that AMA/WADA reserved the right to notify TAS after RUSADA clarified that it would no longer communicate in the case of Kamila Valieva, writes Agerpres.

Russian athletes competed in Beijing without the flag and anthem due to sanctions related to the systematic use of doping.

Valieva explained the positive test by the fact that she mistakenly took medicine for her grandfather’s heart.

Her automatic suspension was overturned by the RUSADA Disciplinary Committee on the grounds that Valieva was under the age of 16, so she was eligible to compete in the women’s individual event in Beijing, but finished fourth despite being favorite for gold.

In June, the International Skating Federation (ISU) voted to gradually raise the minimum age for older athletes from 15 to 17.
