Olympiacos: Twelve European matches without a win

The European torture ended with another defeat of Olympiacos, this time with a score of 2:0 from Nantes in Karaiskaki of the last round of the Europa League groups. The trip, which began on July 20 with first rivals Maccabi Haifa and ended yesterday, has turned into a nightmare for Olympiacos, who ended this 12-match streak, including qualification, without celebrating a single victory. It is also characteristic that at home and in the group stage he counted three defeats, without scoring a single goal, but, on the contrary, missed eight.

As in previous games, Olympiacos was on the field for about 70 minutes in yesterday’s game, and in the remaining 20 minutes it turned into a spectator. Despite the “experimental” 11 – and ahead of the derby with Panathinaikos in Leoforos – Olympiakos at least in the first half played exactly with Nantes, who, unlike him, wanted to win in order to overtake Qarabag in the standings. In fact, the Red-Whites had good moments at the beginning and went to the locker room without fear for a break, keeping the score 0-0.

But in the second half, the picture changed when Nantes stepped across the field. Starting in the 75th minute, when Red-White fatigue entered the equation, the French closed out Olympiacos in the half of the field and finally won a precious victory for them thanks to two very beautiful goals from Mohamed (79 minutes) and Blaz. (90′). Thus, the “canaries” go to the playoffs for Europe, and “Qarabag”, although they drew 1:1 with Freiburg, remained in 3rd place, which sends them to the playoffs for the Conference. Final group position: Freiburg 14, Nantes 9, Qarabag 8, Olympiacos 2 points.

Olympiacos now moves on to face Panathinaikos on Sunday at Leoforo. Mitchell will have to wait until the last minute for Ba, Gary Rodriguez and Beal to see if he can count on them in the derby.

OLYMPIC (Mitchell): Tsolakis, Androutsos, Kalogeropoulos (Cisse 61), Retsos, Vrusai (Vrsaliko 46), Buchalakis, Kunde, Bowler (Avila 85), Abubakar (Marcelo 69), Ou-Jo, El Arabi ( 46). ΄ Sapuncis).
