Former Panathinaikos football player Igor Sypniewski has died at the age of 47, according to Polish media. The veteran striker was born in 1974 in Łódź and started his career with the local team.

The Greek public met him in 1997 as a Kavala footballer. He was transferred to Panathinaikos in 1998 and wore the green jersey for three years.

In 2001 he moved to OFI and also spent some time with the Kallithea team. He ended his career in 2006. He was a two-time Poland national team player.

He was regarded as one of the biggest talents in Polish football but never lived up to expectations. He had a serious drinking problem and his health was taking a toll.

Panathinaikos Sports Club expresses its deepest condolences in connection with the death of the club’s former football player Igor Simnevsky.

The Polish former Clover striker passed away today at the age of just 47 and played for the team from 1998 to 2001.

He wore the green jersey 53 times and scored 8 goals and was especially well liked in the green stands.
