The practical exam is a headache for anyone who wants a career in the police, says Julian Dinou, a physical trainer and physiotherapist who prepares for the police academy and police schools.
This year, during admission to the Police Academy for the session in August – September 2022, approximately 30% of candidates did not pass the sports exam from the applied-life route.
The applied useful route includes 12 obstacles that must be overcome in a maximum time of 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Missing or incorrectly completing an obstacle may result in disqualification from the competition or a 3 second penalty added to the total time. The total length of the route is about 400 m.
According to the press release, besides obstacles, time makes the difference. For Grade 10, the time must be less than or equal to 2’05”. The maximum time to qualify for Admit (Grade 5) is 3’20”, and exceeding this time by even one second will result in a non-advertisement of the sporting event.
Monika Jagar, former president of the sports club “Dinamo Bucharest”, former chief commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, recalls that many people who passed “through her hand” believed that admission to the police academy or school of police officers was easy, that they would need 2 -3 weeks of training, a bit of route modeling and that’s it.
“We had people in excellent physical shape who didn’t make it. You need to prepare for a long time, it is an intensive preparation, both physical and moral. It’s not enough to go to the gym and shoot animals. Specific training is required for each obstacle on the route being used, especially for strength and speed. Resistance is not so necessary, effort against time, and dexterity is needed,” said Iagar.
Julian Dinu says that it is recommended to start training at least 10-12 months before the exam in order to ensure full physical fitness, correct technique for performing the elements of the applied route.
“People who have never played sports are recommended to start training a year and a half before!” – says Dinu.
Those interested can come to the Karol I Technical College on Saturday, September 24, to conduct a simulation of the applied engineering track for free and check the level of training.
