Handball: AEK wins first derby this year against Olympiacos

With Stipe Madalinik in stunning form, AEK beat Olympiacos 25-22 in the Handball Premier League. The derby was held in OAKA and the two clubs have shown that they will once again be the protagonists of men’s handball’s drawing rooms this year.

Croatian international Stipe Madalinik has said he wants to win titles in Greece as well, and he has shown that from day one with his performance. From the first minutes of the match, AEK took the position of “driving”, and the “red-whites” tried not to open the “scissors” of the goal difference. At the end of the first half, the Union leads with a score of 13–11.

A similar picture was in the second half. The Red-Whites tried to close, but AEK increased the backlog even with five goals (17-12). With good defense and Madalinik as the leader, the hosts kept the lead and scored a valuable victory. The Croatian, 29, has scored nine goals, followed by Jukic with four. At Olympiacos, Weber was the top scorer (five).

Other results of the 1st round: PAOK – ASE Douka 31-27, HANTH – Aeropos Edessa ManDynamic 27-25, Drama Bianco Monte – ESN Vrilissio 28-27. Tomorrow they will meet each other: 18.00: Zafirakis Naoussa – AESH Pylaia, 20.00: Ionikos Affidea – Diomedes Argos.
