Maybe bronze metal who won for the third time World Championship not as widely reported in the media as the smaller successes of other athletes or our teams, but from 2012 to the present day, the “big lady” of Greek wrestling is consistent in her meetings with the podium. But what is missing in her collection? Golden difference.
“Perhaps this gold that I didn’t win at the World or European Championships is the motivation to keep working at an intense pace to achieve what I didn’t achieve. I also did not achieve Olympic honors.” said “K” 30-year-old triathlete of the world 53 kg.
Her 3rd place in the world didn’t “excite” the media – “I don’t have the vanity of publicity,” she emphasizes.
Maria’s success at the World Championships in Belgrade did not receive proper coverage either in the media or on the pages of social networks. “I don’t mind because I don’t have the vanity of publicity. The only bad thing is that we are not taught how to find sponsors, which makes the path even more difficult for us. Fortunately, since 2018 I have sponsors and I would like to thank them, because they are the reason for my continued success,” he tells us. Maria’s collection includes three bronze medals from the World Championships, four silver medals and two bronze medals from the European Championships. She is the most successful athlete in the history of Greek wrestling, loves her sport and does not hesitate to mention that she is in pain: “I would like the problem that has arisen between the Federation and some athletes to be resolved. Next year is pre-Olympic and we need the best pre-Olympic team to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics. We have no one to deprive.”
It is expected that the Olympic Games in Paris will be the last performance of the “great lady” of Greek wrestling. She will come out on the carpet and maybe in this case she will complete her record with honors, which is missing in this one …
