Novak Djokovic said goodbye to Roger Federer in a special Instagram post. The Swiss legend announced his retirement from active duty on Thursday via social media.
The “battles” of two tennis players have raised the popularity of this sport to an unrealistic level. In total, they met 50 times, on account of the Serb 27 victories. At the level of the finals, Djokovic has 13 wins against 6 for the Swiss.
“Roger, it’s hard to look back on this day and put into words what we shared in sports. Over ten years of incredible moments and battles to think about. Your career has set the tone for what it means to strive for excellence and lead with honesty and integrity. I am honored to know you on and off the court and for many years to come. I know that this new chapter has a lot in store for you, Mirka and the kids, all your loved ones and fans you are looking forward to. From our family to yours, we wish you joy, health and prosperity in the future. Can’t wait to celebrate your accomplishments and see you in London,” the 21 Grand Slam winner wrote on Instagram.
It is noted that Novak Djokovic will be part of the European team at the Laver Cup, the last Swiss tournament. The team will also include Rafa Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andy Murray in an event that is historic in nature.
