Leila was unable to defend her points earned in the 2021 tournament and is currently ranked 38th in the WTA Live rankings (down 24 positions).

Roland Garros 2021 champion Barbora Krejcikova (23rd favorite) has not impressed this year (at least in singles). The athlete from the Czech Republic lost after an hour and 51 minutes of the game to Oleksandra Krunich (96 WTA), the score 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Also in the second round, Annette Kontaveit (2nd seed) was defeated in three sets by Serena Williams, while Maria Sakkari (3) lost to China’s Xia Wang.
