Eric Linkar and the University of Cluj have ended their collaboration, the Superliga (formerly Liga 1) club announced on Wednesday. The coach’s contract runs until next summer.
Eric Linkar left the University of Cluj, although he was supported by Emil Bock
“U” Cluj scored only two points in the first six stages of the Super League (ranked second to last), and the group leaders wanted to fire the coach.
According to GSP, Emil Bock (the mayor of Cluj) stepped in and told the players on Tuesday that Linkar would remain on the bench for an “indefinite time”, but he eventually decided to step down.
“Our club would like to thank Erik Linčar and his staff consisting of Viorel Domokoš (secondary coach), Robert Pandura (physical coach) and Aleksandr Chirilov (goalkeeping coach) for the work done at the U, which culminated in promotion to the Super League , received at the end of the last season after a draw with Dinamo Bucharest”, said the group from Cluj.
Eric Linkar has been the coach of the Cluj University team since May 2021.
Leo Grozavu, who last coached Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe, is the favorite to succeed Eric Linkar as coach of the University of Cluj.
Three more Superliga teams changed their coach this season: FCSB (Nicolae Dike replaced Anton Petrea), CS Universitatea Craiova (Mirel Radoj replaced Laszlo Balint) and CS Mioveni (Alexandru Pelici).
