
Greece’s presence at the European Athletics Championships ended with five medals. It was the epilogue of a special August that brought great success in Greek sports.
Harvesting in Greece began with rowing at the European Championships in Munich. The “blue-white” paddles won four medals (one gold, three silver) in the German city, placing fifth among the 33 countries that took part in the event.

Good luck in the pool too
Greek athletes were also impressed at the European Aquatics Championships held in Rome. The sports swimming team won bronze medals in individual medley. The Greek team, consisting of Zoya Agrafioti, Maria-Elli Alziguzi, Elena Fragaki, Kristaleniya Jalam, Zoya Karangelou, Maria Karapanagiotu, Danae Karioti, Iphigenia Krommidaki, Sofia Malkogeorgou and Adriana Misikevich, scored 89.4000 points and finished third. Lefteris Petrunias made history
OUR Lefteris Petrunias won the gold medal in hoop exercises at the European Championships in Munich. The athlete Dimitris Raftis with 15,133 points became the European champion for the sixth time in his career.
Petrunyas accomplished the rare feat of becoming a leading figure in the history of European gymnastics. The Greek athlete equaled Hungarian side horse specialist Christian Berki, who alone set the all-time record with six titles in the same event (2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012).
The silver medal was won by Adem Asil from Turkey. Courtney Tulloch of Great Britain completed the catwalk trio.
