Franceskakis started the race nervous and threw 71.76 meters in the first shot. He then clocked 75.79m, 76.92m and 74.84m, was disqualified fifth and finished with a new personal best.
Pole Wocek Nowitzki, the gold medalist of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, climbed to the top step of the podium. The 33-year-old athlete with a result of 82 meters set the best result in the world this year.
Hungarian Bence Halaz with a throw of 80.92 meters (personal best) won the silver medal. The podium trio was completed by the Norwegian Evid Henriksen.
