
David Popovich shone at the European Championships in Rome: he won two gold medals and also set a world record. Determined as the best athlete at the competition, the Romanian will receive a significant amount from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as from the European Swimming League.
Popovych will receive 74,000 lei from MTS for two medals, that is, a little more 15,000 euros.
The European Swimming League will also honor David 14,000 euros: €2,000 for each gold medal and €10,000 for the 100m freestyle world record.
According to DigiSport, David will no longer receive additional remuneration from Dynamo FC. (as it happened after the World Cup in Budapest). The president of the club, Ionuts Popa, stated this.
“David will be awarded according to the Government’s decision. It will no longer be a rejection like it was after he won medals at the World Championships. The government can establish certain exceptions depending on the results of the activity, information, there are other criteria that determine the provision of additional amounts. We cannot award a nominal reward to David Popovich or another athlete, there are clearly defined certain amounts.” – Jonuts Popa, president of the “Dynamo” CS.

David Popovici won two gold medals at the European Swimming Championships in Rome, our athlete was unstoppable in the 100m freestyle and also in the 200m freestyle. After qualifying for the 400m freestyle final in fourth place, David decided to retire due to fatigue.

During the entire World Swimming Championships, only one athlete managed to win the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events from the same edition.
It happened 49 years ago, and the person celebrating this feat is called Jim Montgomery (USA – he is now 67 years old). That year, the competition was hosted by Belgrade.
