Greece-Spain 86-70: Friendly win with amazing Giannis Antetokounmpo

The national basketball team defeated Spain with a score of 86:70 in a friendly match at the OAKA indoor stadium. Giannis Antetokounmpo put in an impressive performance, finishing the game with 31 points and 10 rebounds.

Greece, lined up without Kostas Sloukas and Giorgos Papajannis, showed very good elements both in defense and in attack. The two teams will meet again on August 11 in Spain.

Greece started with Kalatis, Dorsey, Papanikolaou, Giannis and Kostas Antetokounmpo. The team of Dimitris Itoudis showed a willingness to offer a spectacle at the start of the match to compensate for the more than 10,000 fans who were in the closed OAKA.

The national team reached a double score (16-8) with Dorsey and 29-10 with Kalatis, Agravanis and Papapetrou. The first quarter ended 31-13 with a good shot from Thanasis Antetokounmpo.

Lopez-Arostegui cut for Spain early in the second period. With a 1/2 Papanicolaou throw, Greece reached +20 (36-16), and the guests tried to return to the match.

The Spaniards, thanks to a three-pointer by Jaime Fernandez, reduced the score to 48-35 in the last stretch of the first half. Both teams went to the dressing room, where Greece took the lead 50–35 thanks to Dorsey’s accurate two-pointer.

In the third quarter, the team faced serious problems. As Dimitris Itoudis rested, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nick Kalatis, Greece had trouble making up and playing fast. Somehow, the Spaniards reduced the difference to a single value of 63-57 in the third period.

Greece led 67-57 with Giannis Antetokounmpo. With the Greek superstar scoring impressively and Dorsey hitting a two-pointer, Dimitris Itoudis’s team led 75-69 and 78-61 with the Milwaukee Bucks star’s three-pointer. Toward the end of the game, the difference again reached 19 points, and Greece won in relative comfort.
