China’s Xia Wang, ranked 95th in the world, defeated Victoria Azarenka, ranked 20th in the WTA, 6-1, 6-3.
Samsonova and Wang will face each other in the semifinals, News.ro reports.
In the other semi-final, the Estonian Kaia Kanepi, who overcame the Russian Anna Kalinska (6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3), and the Australian Daria Saville, who won the match with Rebecca Marino, will meet. (6-1, 7-5).
The WTA 250 tournament in Washington has a prize pool of $251,750 and is held on a “hard” surface.
