From September 10 to 18, the women’s tennis tournament organized by the Ţiriac Foundation will once again take place in Bucharest. The Tiriac Foundation Trophy tournament (category WTA 125) will be held at the National Tennis Center.

The competition will be held outdoors, on the ground.

“The organization of this tournament is the result of the efforts made to keep Bucharest on the international map of tennis tournaments. The goal of the Ţiriac Foundation is to encourage sports among young people, and the organization of this competition completes the Foundation’s mission.

Here, after a three-year break, the initiative of the Ţiriac Foundation once again makes Bucharest the host of the world sports debate in white sports. Of course, I will do everything possible to ensure that this tournament has continuity, because it gives a foundation and confidence to Romanian tennis.” stated Ion Cyriac.

The WTA 125 tournament in Bucharest will feature a main singles draw with 32 players and a doubles draw with 8 teams.

The competition offers a total of $115,000 in prize money and 160 WTA ranking points for the champion. The total cost of the tournament is over 300,000 euros.

“Of course, this WTA 125 tournament, organized in a strategic week in the tennis calendar, will provide a suitable experience for both the established players and the new stars of the white sport, who will compete for the prestigious title in front of a passionate crowd.” said Steve Simon, president of the WTA.

The qualifying matches for the singles draw will take place on September 10 and 11, the main draw matches will start on September 12. The semi-finals and final will be held on September 17 and 18, respectively.

The Romanian Tennis Federation will start selling tickets at the end of August.

The Tiriac Foundation Trophy is the first WTA tennis tournament organized in Bucharest in the last three years.
