“In this election, we don’t just decide who wins and who loses. We decide who and how will govern the country for the next four years. We decide the future,” said the President of SYRIZA. Alexis Tsipraspresenting his party’s plan for the economy at a special event at the Rematia Theater in Chalandriou.
“What do we want to see our country in 2027?” he asked himself, answering that he envisioned a country and a society “of democracy and equality, with less inequality, where the wealth produced will increase and be distributed fairly and equally among citizens.” A country where “our fellow citizens will not die in a collective farm cart, because there is no ambulance.
Having launched an attack on the CE, Mr. Tsipras assessed these goals as realistic, provided that the course of the last four years does not continue.
“Five years after the end of the adjustment programs, the country’s per capita income is 59% of the eurozone average. 18 percentage points lower than the 2007 equivalent of 77%. At the same time, the percentage of citizens on the verge of poverty reaches a monstrous 28.2%. Most painfully, this is reflected in the deplorable state of the national health system, left without any support during the pandemic. This is also reflected in the investment sector, where the ND is celebrating because it hides the fact that nearly all investments over the past four years have involved privatizations, buyouts of tourist properties and the purchase of bad loans from funds. All this and much more reflects a single reality, which is also confirmed by the numbers: the country is no longer on the path of rapprochement with Europe, but vice versa. And this course needs to be changed. This is the main national goal to reverse it.”
