“We must understand that the climate crisis is already here and will remain, and we must all adjust our policies towards climate neutrality,” said Mr. Tsipras and added: “it is a pity that throughout the entire period of the election campaign for the elections of May 21 this discussion did not open. The discussion was not open on perhaps the most important issue of tomorrow for our country, but also for the planet.”
He also argued that it is critical for the parties to put forward their positions and proposals, and explained: “This is critical because we can all agree that immediate action and interventions are needed towards the green transition, but it is absolutely certain that we are not agree who should pay the costs. Because the green transition should be a fair transition. The green transition should neither lead to energy poverty nor, of course, increase inequality. It is extremely important to pursue a sober, balanced and radical reform policy in order to protect the environment, overcome the consequences of the climate crisis, as well as a just transition, which means social support, social policy so that the costs are not paid by the popular strata and the middle class.”
Concentrating, he emphasized: “Protecting the environment, fighting the climate crisis with fair social policies. I think this is the future and a decisive answer to the problems of the future.”
